I bought a NAS mainly for media and ended up using it more for boring stuff like tax documents and scanned paperwork.

Having a searchable archive of important files is incredibly useful.

The entertainment side was just a bonus.

The funny thing is that a NAS sounds like a solution looking for a problem until you have one.

Then suddenly you find ten problems it solves.

It is one of those purchases that becomes more valuable over time.

NAS setups are great until you realise you have become the family IT department.

Suddenly everyone wants their backups fixed and asks why their laptop cannot connect.

Still worth it, but be prepared for your new unofficial job title :P

I think the biggest mistake people make is buying too little storage. A few years of photos and videos takes up space much faster than expected.

Buying extra capacity early is usually cheaper than replacing everything later.

Future you will appreciate it.

People underestimate how useful shared storage is in a household. Once everyone has access to the same place, sending files around becomes much easier.

It is especially handy for families with lots of photos and videos.

Just make sure everyone understands the folder structure before it becomes another mess.
