This is a good question because a lot of "free download" sites are sketchy.

Safer options I've used:

official websites whenever possible
GitHub for open source tools
well known platforms instead of random download sites

My advice: If a site looks spammy or pushes multiple download buttons, I usually avoid it completely

I thought that too until I actually tried it. I have learned to be suspicious of any fix that requires you to change multiple things at once.
