Q: Will quantum computers break Bitcoin overnight? A: Not overnight, but they could become a serious problem for exposed public keys if large enough fault-tolerant quantum computers arrive. Q: Does that mean Bitcoin mining is doomed too? A: Mining is mostly a hash problem, so quantum speedups are less dramatic there than people often assume. Q: What should people watch? A: The important signs are migration plans for quantum-safe signatures, wallet behaviour, and whether old coins with exposed public keys are treated as a real risk.

This is the kind of Bitcoin discussion I prefer because it separates mining from signatures instead of turning everything into panic.

The exposed public key issue is the bit most casual holders never think about, especially with old reused addresses.

I still think Bitcoin would adapt if the threat became realistic, but the migration would be messy and political.

Good Q&A topic. It should make clear that quantum risk is not zero, but it is not a magic instant Bitcoin death switch either.
