Bitcoin was originally proposed as a peer to peer electronic cash system intended for everyday transactions without needing a bank or other central intermediary involved, and yet in practice it has increasingly come to be treated primarily as a long term store of value and speculative investment asset rather than something people actually spend on daily purchases like groceries or coffee, largely due to price volatility, comparatively slow transaction speeds on the base network, and the genuine tax and accounting complexity involved in spending an asset that might have appreciated significantly since it was originally acquired.

Supporters argue that layer two scaling solutions and increasing merchant adoption will eventually solve the practical usability issues, allowing Bitcoin to genuinely fulfil its original purpose as actual everyday money rather than just a speculative asset people hold and rarely spend. Skeptics argue the incentive to simply hold rather than spend an asset widely expected to appreciate will always work directly against its adoption as genuine everyday currency, regardless of how much the underlying technology itself actually improves. Do you think Bitcoin will ever genuinely become everyday spendable money, or is that ship effectively already sailed?
