Bitcoin's fixed supply cap and genuinely growing institutional adoption get cited constantly as reasons it deserves the digital gold label, with proponents arguing its scarcity is actually more provable and enforceable than gold's since new gold discoveries can still meaningfully increase overall supply. Gold has thousands of years of established trust behind it though, and genuinely far lower price volatility over any given year compared to Bitcoin's history. This isn't financial advice, just discussing the general comparison people make. Curious whether people think Bitcoin genuinely deserves that digital gold comparison or whether the volatility difference makes it a fundamentally different kind of asset entirely

The case against Bitcoin as a genuine store of value usually centers on its price swings being genuinely too dramatic for something meant to preserve value reliably over time, with drawdowns of over fifty percent having happened multiple separate times in its history. Gold's defenders point to it holding real value across literally thousands of years of different governments, currencies and financial systems rising and falling. Worth remembering nobody here is a licensed financial advisor and this remains a genuinely contested debate among actual experts too

What's actually shaped your own view on this comparison. Genuinely curious how people are weighing established history against genuine long term growth potential here

Still think gold wins on pure stability specifically, given how many actual economic crises across different centuries it's held real value through consistently. Bitcoin simply hasn't existed long enough yet to prove that same kind of multi generational resilience. Time itself is the thing gold has that Bitcoin genuinely can't yet claim
