Tim Sweeney has once again criticised Valve over AI disclosures on Steam. GamesRadar reports that the Epic Games chief executive called the requirement abhorrent, describing it as forcing developers to write a political statement that can be used against them

Steam requires developers to disclose whether their games use generative AI, and the disclosures are shown on store pages. Sweeney previously compared the label to a Scarlet Letter in June 2026, and his latest comments go even further

The debate has been reignited by recent releases, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, which carries an AI disclosure on Steam. Some players use the labels to avoid games, while others say they simply want to know

Valve's position is that customers deserve transparency about how games are made. Sweeney argues that the labels unfairly stigmatise developers, especially as AI tools become a normal part of development

Both sides have a point. Players have a reasonable interest in knowing how games are made, but a blunt label can treat very different uses of AI as the same thing. A more detailed disclosure might satisfy everyone better than a simple yes or no

Do AI disclosures on Steam help you decide what to buy? And is Sweeney right that they are unfair to developers?
