OpenAI and Google, two of the biggest rivals in AI, have struck a deal. 9to5Google's Ben Schoon reports that OpenAI's frontier GPT models will be available in Google Cloud's model garden in the coming weeks, sold through the Google Cloud Marketplace

Businesses will be able to use the models under their existing Google Cloud spending commitments, which makes adoption easier for companies already on Google's platform. The models will also come to Google's Antigravity coding tool soon, as well as Gemini Agent

Google's model garden already offers Anthropic's Claude, Google's own Gemini models and a range of open models. Google Cloud chief executive Thomas Kurian said the company wants to give customers a broad selection of models, including those from OpenAI

Neither company has said which specific GPT models will be offered. OpenAI's models have mostly been available through Microsoft Azure until now, so this is a notable expansion

It is a sign that cloud providers see themselves as neutral marketplaces rather than champions of one model. Customers get more choice, and OpenAI reaches new businesses. It is also another sign that the Microsoft and OpenAI relationship has loosened

Should cloud providers offer every major AI model? And what does this mean for Microsoft's partnership with OpenAI?
