New month, new challenge. The theme for July is golden hour, that stretch just after sunrise or before sunset when the light goes soft and warm and makes everything look ten times better than it deserves to

The rules are simple. The photo must be taken by you during July, one entry per member as your official entry although you can share others for discussion, and any camera counts, phone shots are absolutely welcome. Post the photo, where it was taken, and one sentence about how you got it

A tip for anyone new to chasing this light, the hour is shorter than the name suggests and it moves through a scene fast, so scout your spot beforehand and arrive early. Shooting toward the sun gives you rim light and silhouettes, shooting away from it gives you that warm painted look, both count

Friendly critique is welcome if the poster asks for it, drive by negativity is not. Winner gets picked by poll at the end of the month and chooses the August theme. Get shooting

In. There is a wheat field near me that goes molten about 8pm and I have been waiting for an excuse

Phone shooters, turn off the auto HDR for this one. It flattens exactly the shadows that make golden hour work

Robin13

Mildly disagree, HDR on but pulled back in edit keeps highlight detail you cannot recover otherwise. Depends on the phone honestly

Question from a beginner, does blue hour count if the brief is golden hour? The 20 minutes after sunset does incredible things near water

KeyboardWarrior47

Blue hour is its own religion, save it for a future month. July is strictly the warm stuff

Sunrise gang checking in. Same light, zero crowds, and the smug feeling lasts all day
Posted from a machine that definitely needs a clean install

QuietNomad

Sunrise gang conveniently forgetting that golden hour in July means getting up at 4.30am

Merchant94

Can we do portraits or is this landscapes only? Backlit portraits at golden hour are basically cheating and I want to cheat
VAR can do one

Anything goes as long as the light is the star. Last month someone won with a photo of a bin, it is about the seeing
