Is the Fujifilm X100VI really the best camera for street photography right now?

The Fujifilm X100VI keeps getting called the best street photography camera on the market right now, and there's a genuine case for it. Fixed 35mm equivalent lens forces discipline instead of constant zooming, the hybrid viewfinder is genuinely unique, and the whole package is small enough to actually carry everywhere without feeling like a burden. Fujifilm's film simulations also mean a lot of shooters barely need to edit afterward. Curious whether people think it actually earns that reputation or if it's mostly hype and waitlists

The obvious counterpoint is that a fixed 35mm lens is a genuine limitation, not a feature, for anyone who wants versatility, and the autofocus still lags behind Sony's best mirrorless bodies in tricky lighting. Plenty of experienced street photographers still prefer a Ricoh GR or even a well used Leica Q for the exact same genre. Curious how much of the X100VI hype is genuine performance versus scarcity driven desirability

iPhone Pro models have genuinely gotten good enough that plenty of serious street photographers just use their phone now instead of any dedicated camera. Nobody talks about that option in these debates enough honestly. Discretion and always having it with you count for a lot in street work specifically

Ricoh GR III deserves way more mention in this conversation, honestly, since it's smaller, cheaper, and just as capable for candid street work. The X100VI gets all the hype partly because of chronic stock shortages making it feel exclusive. Actual usability wise the GR III might edge it out for pure street shooting

Leica Q3 is the camera I'd actually pick if money were no object, purely for the full frame sensor and lens quality. Costs roughly four times as much as the X100VI though, which is a genuinely huge gap. Depends entirely on whether budget factors into the best label at all

Sony a7C II with a small prime lens gives you way more autofocus reliability than the X100VI while staying reasonably compact.

Loses some of that charm and simplicity Fuji built its reputation on though. Purely on hit rate for moving subjects, the Sony setup wins in my experience

Sticking up for the X100VI here honestly, the hybrid viewfinder specifically is something none of these alternatives properly replicate. Being able to switch between optical and electronic instantly changes how you actually shoot in changing light. That one feature alone justifies the reputation for me
