Here is a fun daydream for the art board. Imagine you could borrow or buy any artwork in the world, and the only condition is that it has to hang in your hallway. Not a gallery, not a grand living room, but the narrow corridor where you take your shoes off and drop your keys. Which piece would you choose?

The hallway is an interesting test. It is a space you walk past several times a day, so the artwork needs to be something you would never tire of. A huge dramatic painting might feel overwhelming in a small space, while something tiny might get lost. You might choose a famous masterpiece, a piece by a living artist or something completely unexpected. Small spaces need careful choices

Some people would pick classics like a Turner seascape, a Hokusai print or a Monet water lily. Others might go for modern works, street art, photography or sculpture. There is no wrong answer. It is all about what you would love to see every day

My choice would be one of Turner's stormy sea paintings. I love the way the light seems to glow through the chaos, and I think it would make even a grey Monday morning feel dramatic. It would also be the most expensive thing in my house by several million pounds

Which artwork would you hang in your hallway, and why?
