Canon officially unveils the EOS R8 Mark II with in body stabilization finally added

Canon officially announced the EOS R8 Mark II on September 15, fixing the single biggest complaint photographers had about the original 2023 model by finally adding in body image stabilization. The new camera pairs that long awaited IBIS with the same 24.2 megapixel sensor from the EOS R8 and R6 Mark II, a redesigned and more angular body, and Dual Pixel CMOS AF II with full frame coverage tracking of people, animals, and vehicles, along with a new Register People Priority mode for keeping a specific subject locked in focus.

Burst shooting sees a real jump too, with electronic shutter now supporting up to 40 frames per second and an optional pre continuous shooting mode that captures up to 20 frames before you even fully press the shutter button, useful for catching a moment that happens a split second before you react. Canon also says buffer depth improved meaningfully over the original R8, with a 58 percent increase in uninterrupted JPEG shooting and a 30 percent bump for RAW. Video gets oversampled 4K at 60p and uncropped 1080p up to 180fps, alongside new Filmtone colour profiles for both stills and video.

The camera ships fully weather sealed, a notable upgrade over the original R8, and launches alongside two new accessories, the EG-E2 Extension Grip for photographers with larger hands who found the compact body cramped, and a second generation Speedlite EL-5. Pricing lands at $1,899 body only, with preorders open now and shipments expected in October.
