Camera bags are one of those purchases that seem overpriced until you actually use a bad one. A poorly designed bag can make a full day of shooting miserable. The Peak Design Everyday Backpack 20L Charcoal is expensive, but it keeps appearing in photographer discussions because people like quick access, dividers and carrying normal daily items alongside camera gear.

The question is whether premium bags genuinely protect gear and improve workflow, or whether photographers are just very good at justifying stylish backpacks.

How much should someone really spend on a camera bag?

A good camera bag is absolutely worth it if you carry gear often. Comfort matters, access matters and protection matters.

A cheap bag feels fine for ten minutes in the house. It feels very different after six hours walking around a city

Some premium bags are more fashion statement than function though.

I have seen people carry one camera and a lens in a bag designed like they are crossing a mountain range

The best bag is the one you actually take with you. If it is too big, too heavy or too awkward, it stays at home and becomes expensive furniture
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

I used to think camera bags were overpriced until a zip failed on a cheap one and my lens hit concrete.

After that, paying more for quality felt very reasonable

Photographers love buying bags because no bag is ever quite perfect.

There is always one more layout, one more size, one more little pocket that might finally solve everything. It never does
