Plenty of us have experimented with handing tasks to AI over the past couple of years. Writing emails, planning meals, summarising documents, sorting photos, coding, even choosing birthday presents. Some of those experiments stuck and became part of daily life. Others did not last long at all

I am curious about the ones that did not work out. What task did you give to an AI, use it for a while, and then decide you would rather do yourself? Maybe the results were poor, maybe it took longer to check than to do from scratch, or maybe it just felt wrong. Those stories tell us a lot about where AI helps and where it does not. Small failures can be just as instructive as big successes

My own example is writing birthday cards. I tried using a chatbot to come up with something witty for a friend, and the result was technically fine but felt completely hollow. I ended up writing a short, scruffy message by hand instead, and it meant far more. Some things lose their point when you outsource them

On the other hand, I have happily kept AI for tasks like reformatting spreadsheets and drafting dull admin emails. The line for me seems to be whether the task is personal or just a chore. others probably draw it somewhere different

What did you take back from AI, and why? And is there anything you are still on the fence about?

Meal planning. The suggestions looked great but ignored what was in my fridge and what my kids would eat

I went back to the same ten meals on rotation. Fish fingers on Thursdays will never be replaced
