President Trump signed a new executive order on promoting advanced AI innovation and security. Beyond the headline support for AI development the order contains something specific worth paying attention to. Within sixty days the NSA CISA and NIST must develop a classified benchmarking process to assess the advanced cyber capabilities of AI models and determine thresholds at which a model becomes a covered frontier model for national security purposes. That's the government building a secret classification system for AI capability levels. Combined with the quantum computing executive orders signed the same week the White House is treating advanced technology capability as a genuine national security matter requiring classified oversight.

Question everything. Especially this.

IronFist21

The frontier model classification threshold is the interesting part. At what capability level does an AI model become a national security concern?
