Q: Should a small forum worry about AI scrapers? A: Yes, but the response should be practical rather than paranoid. Q: What is the real risk? A: Public posts may be copied into datasets, users may not realise how searchable their words are, and aggressive bots can waste bandwidth or distort traffic stats. Q: What can a forum do? A: Use sensible robots rules, rate limiting, bot detection, clearer privacy wording, and careful decisions about which boards should be public

Small forums often assume nobody cares about their content, but scrapers do not need to care when they are crawling at scale

Private boards and member-only areas are more useful than pretending robots.txt will stop every bad actor

The bandwidth and server load issue is real too. Even if you do not care about AI training, bad bots can still be a pain

I like the balanced angle. Blocking everything can hurt discovery, but doing nothing is not great for users either
