OpenAI is rolling out GPT-6 in ChatGPT with a new capability it calls Intelligent UI, according to Engadget. Replies can now include interactive elements such as graphics, tappable buttons, forms, charts and checklists. One example is an interactive table that scales ingredient quantities for a dinner party. The model can also leave the visuals out when plain text works better

There is a change to how answers arrive as well. To cut waiting times, the model can start answering while it is still reasoning, rather than settling on its full output first like earlier reasoning models. A response can also span several messages that build into one answer. That should make long, complex answers feel faster even if the total thinking time stays the same

OpenAI suggests several uses. Visual explanations of complex topics, custom tools such as an investment calculator or bill splitter, and even retro games like Snake are all on the list. In OpenAI's words, instead of fitting every question into the same conversational format, ChatGPT can now combine UI, data and actions. That is a big shift away from the chat box that ChatGPT started as

The rollout comes in two flavours. Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users worldwide are getting it now, powered by GPT-6 Sol. Free and Go users are due to get access later the same day, powered by a less capable version called GPT-6 Luna. So everyone gets GPT-6 in name, but paying users get the stronger model

I am curious how the Intelligent UI side holds up in daily use. Interactive charts and calculators sound great in a demo, but they can also get in the way when you just want a straight answer. The bill splitter idea is a good example of something people would use. Whether it replaces small apps on your phone is the bigger question

Have you tried GPT-6 yet? And do interactive answers sound useful, or would you rather keep it to text?

Works on my machine :D
