Google completed the Gemini 3.5 Pro launch alongside the broader Antigravity platform shift at Google I/O 2026. The 3.5 family includes improvements across reasoning multimodal capabilities and agentic properties. Gemini 3.5 Live Translate was showcased at the 2026 World Cup with real-time translation capabilities. This represents Google's evolution from language models toward agent-focused architectures

The agentic framing is the key difference from earlier Gemini versions. 3.5 is designed to take actions autonomously plan across steps and integrate with external systems. This is the direction all frontier labs are moving away from pure language prediction toward task-completing systems

Live translation at World Cup scale is technically impressive. Processing streaming video audio and outputting translated audio with imperceptible latency is hard. If Google pulled it off that's a real engineering accomplishment not marketing hype

The Gemini 3.5 launch also drove the Antigravity CLI migration which we covered separately. Google is using the model launch to force ecosystem adoption. Smart from a platform consolidation perspective but annoying for developers

Google is trying to regain narrative momentum from OpenAI and Anthropic through breadth of applications. They're not necessarily out-capability-ing competitors but they're deploying across more domains faster. Translation sports multimodal agents coding assistance. The goal is ubiquity not pure frontier capability

Real-time translation at World Cup level scale is hard. If they pulled it off this is legitimately impressive engineering
