Five design projects that push back against the AI boom

Among them is designer Simon Weckert's Digital Camouflage shirt, a garish, colorful button-up developed in response to an AI video surveillance pilot at a Berlin transit hub, using an adversarial design process, generate a candidate, test it against a detector, adjust, repeat, until an open-source AI object detector's confidence in spotting a person collapses entirely

Also featured is Decoy Font, created by digital font foundry Mixfont, which uses a well-known optical illusion to let humans read one message while an AI system attempting to scrape the same text sees something else entirely, layering thin clear outlines in the foreground against blurry dark shapes behind them. Mixfont itself acknowledged the cat-and-mouse nature of the project, noting that while AI might not read the font today, it's possible new models could learn to see through the trick within months, treating the whole effort as an ongoing experiment in probing the current limits of AI perception rather than a permanent solution

The roundup also includes the Imago audio player, which offers a creative alternative to commercial AI music systems trained on scraped data.
